caffeine under pressure

It’s not you. It’s how caffeine works.

Caffeine wakes you up by switching on the same stress response your body uses under threat. That is why alertness so often arrives with a racing heart.

Caffeine blocks adenosine

Within minutes, caffeine blocks the receptors that make you feel tired. You start to feel more awake - but your body has lost its natural brake.

Your stress response activates

Cortisol and adrenaline rise. You feel switched on and alert, but you might notice your palms getting sweaty or your heart beating a little faster.

Stimulation peaks

You’re fully alert, but it can tip into feeling jittery, overwhelmed, or anxious. The line between focused and overstimulated is thin.

Adenosine floods back

As caffeine wears off, all the tiredness it was blocking hits at once. Energy crashes. Focus scatters. The afternoon disappears.

Cortisol lingers

The caffeine is gone but the stress hormones aren’t. Sleep suffers. You wake up tired. And reach for the coffee again.

You’re not alone.

“Gave up coffee about two years ago. The anxiety wasn’t worth it.”

Daniel K. · London

“Down to one coffee a day now - anything more and it’s anxiety roulette.”

Lucy M. · Manchester

“Had to switch to matcha last year but I’ve really missed the taste of coffee.”

Sam P. · Bristol

“I never stopped drinking coffee, I just accepted that feeling wired was a part of it.”

Priya R. · Edinburgh

Coffee’s energy, tea’s composure.

Who said you had to choose between coffee and matcha?

On a heavy day, that’s a choice between staying sharp and staying composed. Mushroom blends and adaptogen drinks are great, they’ve inspired us as much as anyone. They’re just not coffee. So we designed Cocha with the best of both.

No jitters

L-theanine from green tea takes the edge off caffeine without dulling it.

No compromise

Arabica coffee taste. Real milk. All natural ingredients. Nothing to apologise for.

Why I made this

I'm not a coffee expert.

I'm someone who loves coffee, but not always how I feel after.

Especially when I'm already under pressure, which is exactly when I need it most.

I quit for a long time after uni finals, but eventually the 9 to 5 demanded going back to it.

That's when I worked out the problem was never me, and it was never coffee. It was caffeine with nothing to balance it.

So I made the version I wanted; one I could rely on.

What we’re allowed to say.

In the UK, a drink can only make health claims that appear on the GB register. Two of our ingredients have them, and four of those claims they share. So this is the whole of what we will tell you Cocha does.
